Talk: The Workhouse

9th - Tuesday - 2pm

Do join Downton Good Companions in the Memorial Hall to hear this talk to be given by Local Historian & Author Stephen Ings. It may make you feel that perhaps things aren`t quite so bad these days after all! Entry £1 includes tea & biscuits. All welcome.

Open Rehearsal with Woodfalls Band

10th March - Wednesday - 8pm

Everyone is welcome to an open rehearsal with Woodfalls Band and Verwood Concert Brass on Wednesday 10th March at Downton's school - "Trafalgar School".

Woodfalls conducted by Dr Nick Childs, will be performing George Lloyd's 'English Heritage' whilst Verwood will be playing Holst's 'Moorside Suite'.
Both bands are preparing to compete at the West of England Regional contest in Torquay at the weekend. The open rehearsal is in the school's Drama Studio at the rear of the school (near the tennis courts). The rehearsal starts at 8pm and is free to attend.

Downton Moviola

20th - Saturday - 7 pm for 7.30 pm

Downton Movies presents "Bright Star" PG 119 Minutes about the poet John Keats and the girl next door, directed by Jane Campion. Bring a cushion and enjoy the film!

Downton Horticultural Society Spring Show and Gardening Workshop

24th - Wed - 7.30pm

In the Church Hall, Barford Lane, at 7.30 pm. There will be various classes for daffodils, tulips, polyanthuses, orchids etc. There will also be two photographic classes, "Sunrise or Sunset" and "A Spring Garden".

Schedules are available from the Show Secretary, Pam Yeates (511495).
Everyone is welcome to enter one or more exhibits or just come along to view them. Admission is free both to the show and the gardening workshop that immediately follows it.

The theme of the workshop will be "Bonsai", but it is very likely that other gardening issues will also be discussed.

Armchair Travel Evening

27th - Saturday - 7pm

'My Falklands War'. A Nurse's story from the Canberra by Rosie Elsdon.

Easter Egg Hunt and Plant Stall

5th - Easter Monday - 11am (gate opens 10.45am)

ON THE SUNKEN LAWN IN THE MOOT - Children £1.50 entrance to include free squash and biscuits Primary School age and under 5's, accompanied by an adult, please. Hot drinks and cakes for sale.

Note to dog owners: It is always appreciated when people clear up after their dogs anywhere in the Moot, but please take extra care not to allow your pet to foul the Sunken Lawn in the weeks leading up to Easter. Thank you.

Plant Stall: We would be very grateful for donations of all kinds of (labelled) plants. Please contact Angela Jones (01725 512204) or bring them on the day before 11am.
