"Singing for the Brain" comes to Downton
Alzheimer's Society Salisbury are starting a Singing for the Brain group at the Memorial Hall, Downton, in the Autumn.
Singing for the Brain™ is a group activity which has been carefully designed to enhance wellbeing for people with memory problems associated with dementia and their relatives. It can be a joy to sing, a work out for the mind: tempo, beat, melody and rhythm all posing challenges. When other parts of the memory appear to be fading, we work with and build on the well-known preservation of musical memory. Our methods help with articulation, concentration, focus and motivation hidden in a fun structured singing programme, all of which contribute to a more positive view of life. It is enjoyable, friendly and uplifting giving many people a much-needed boost in confidence and all led by a trained facilitator. Please note that no previous singing expertise is required!

Tisbury, Amesbury and Harnham groups want to share this encouragement with you:
‘Everyone is a little nervous the first time, but you’ve just got to try it. It’s wonderful and everyone should do it.’
‘I can’t sing, but a miracle happens and we make beautiful music!’
‘It recharges the batteries. It’s my weekly tonic.’
We would welcome enquiries from people living with dementia, relatives and also from local people who would like to join this community project as a Volunteer.
