Bus Times
The “Pulseline” bus service that runs through Downton Village, Woodfalls and Redlynch from Salisbury, is currently operated on a commercial basis by the Wilts & Dorset bus company (i.e. without any subsidy). Unfortunately, the bus company has announced that due to rising operating costs, it can no-longer operate this part of the service on a commercial basis and so Wiltshire Council has had to find funding to pay for a replacement.
As a result, Wiltshire Council will be funding a new service 44 which will run along the same route as the Pulseline bus from 21st March. The service will still be operated by Wilts & Dorset and will run approximately every 90 minutes, although to keep the costs down, there are a few gaps in the timetable where the bus has to go off to carry school children.
An advance copy of the timetable is available HERE but as there is still a possibility that it may change very slightly before 21st March, remember to check this timetable again in mid March just in case. Please note that the timetable also incorporates replacement journeys for peak hour service 45 which is also being withdrawn as part of these changes.
Community Transport South Wiltshire
From October 2008 local elderly, disabled, and socially isolated
people in the Downton area can use 'Community Transport South Wiltshire's'
free travel to and from Salisbury using the Community Bus "Shopper"
Service, provided that they have a valid bus pass.
It is designed especially for the elderly, disabled, and the socially
isolated, who have difficulty or cannot use public transport and
runs from Downton every Tuesday. This service is run by an independent
charity which is sponsored by Salisbury District Council and receives
a grant through Community First.
There is a small annual membership fee, but the journeys are free.

Downton Link Scheme
Downton Link Scheme is a voluntary group offering a good neighbour
service to local people who are in need, either because they are
elderly, disabled, single parents or perhaps are temporarily in
need because of illness.
Downton Link Scheme welcomes new volunteers, so that more people
can be helped. Link Scheme Volunteers decide on their own availability
and the kind of the help that they can offer. A co-ordinator contacts
volunteers with requests. Volunteers are covered by insurance and
are paid mileage expenses. They do things such as helping with transport,
collecting prescriptions, doing shopping, changing library books,
taking clients to appointments or the shops; or practical help such
as feeding and walking pets and minor jobs in the house and garden;
some volunteers also help with caring, such as taking a client for
a walk, or popping in for a chat or to read to a client.
