Downton NPT – Neighbourhood Watch Bulletin – July 2010

Downton NPT Priorities

The local Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) priorities for the current period were decided at a recent meeting of our Neighbourhood Tasking Group (NTG) and are set out below.

Please attend one of our surgeries or email us to have your say on the priorities.

Anti-social behaviour – The Moot, Downton

Downton NPT are currently carrying out regular foot patrols of the Moot following a recent increase in anti-social behaviour (ASB) and damage at this location.

Recent incidents include criminal damage to the Moot balustrade (this will cost several thousand pounds to repair), damage to the notice board, bonfires being lit, and problems with young people cycling and littering.  Cycling is not permitted within the Moot as it damages the Ancient Monument.

Reports have also been received of groups of young people gathering in the Moot with regular evidence of underage drinking and smoking.

Speeding -  across all parishes

We continue to carry out regular speed enforcement checks and are actively promoting our Community Speed Watch (CSW) scheme.

We are still looking for CSW volunteers; please let us know if you are interested in starting a CSW scheme in your area.

Foot Patrols by local officers

Local officers will carry out regular foot patrols to improve the visibility of local policing and provide reassurance to residents.

In larger villages (Downton/ Redlynch) our foot patrols will target areas prone to ASB.

In smaller villages, officers will utilise busier times/ locations such as schools and local shops in order to meet and consult with local people.

Police Surgeries

In line with the Policing Pledge an officer from Downton NPT will be available to discuss any of your concerns at the following events:

Mondays 9am-10am
Woodfalls - Post office

Wednesdays 11am-12pm
Coombe Bissett - Church

We will also hold regular surgeries in Downton as soon as our Library Police Office is opened.

Police Surgeries/ Consultations

Coombe Bissett Local police will be available at the Community Coffee morning at Coombe Bissett church every Wednesday between 11am and 12. We are not just there for the excellent coffee and biscuits! Please take the opportunity to come along and discuss local Policing issues, report any ongoing problems or simply have a chat with one of your local officers.

Downton – An agreement has now been finalised to allow Downton NPT officers to use a small office within Downton Library. As part of our use of this office, we intend to hold two ‘Police surgery’ sessions each week where local people can access local NPT officers (full details of the first surgery dates will be circulated as soon as known).

Homington – A local NPT officer will attend the coffee morning at Homington Church between 1030am-1130am on Sat 10th July. We will aim to regularly attend these events which are held each month.

Woodfalls - A member of the team will be available in the shop/ Post Office between 9am-10am every Monday morning. Please come along and discuss local Policing issues, report any ongoing problems or simply have a chat with one of your local Policing team.
