Downton - Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Celebration

Next year it will be 60 years since our Queen ascended the throne. There will be celebrations up and down the country. At an open meeting held in the White Horse at the end of 2010, it was decided to hold our own celebrations in Downton on Saturday 2nd June 2012.

We decided that the day will comprise:

  • 1.30pm Carnival and Street Party

  • 5.30pm Early evening entertainment

  • 8.00pm Evening concert

  • 10.30pm Fireworks finale

We have estimated that it will cost at least £16,000 to put on this day of celebration.  The money will be raised through fundraising events (over £6,000 raised to date from the Black Tie evening held in February and the Ceilidh in September), sponsorship, advertisement space in the concert programme, concert ticket and programme sales and bar profits.  The fund was kick started by £600 left in the Golden Jubilee Account when a similar day of festivities was held 10 years ago.  We have just heard that the application for funding made to our Local Area Board has been successful and we are being awarded £1204.

Any profits will be distributed amongst local charities.

Next open meeting is Tuesday 28 February 2012 in the White Horse.  Everyone is welcome to attend.
